Church Hill Infant School -SATs Analysis 2019

The SATs tests that pupils complete have been modified to take account of the curriculum changes and expectations. The results below show how the school performed and what the national picture looks like. We have compared our year on year school results with National Results.

Reading

Percentage of children attaining the expected standard or better

School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2017 School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2018 School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2019 National expected or above at end of KS1 2018

Percentage

of cohort

(90)

22% 28% 21% 26%

What does this mean?

  • A greater percentage of children are achieving the Expected standard than ever before although the number Exceeding has gone down slightly.
  • The gap between school and National Expected results continues to diminish.
  • Our Shared Reading initiative continues to be successful. The children are regularly hearing good role models for reading and are given the opportunity to discuss new vocabulary and answer retrieval and inference questions.

School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2017 School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2018 School Expected or above at the end of KS1 2019 National expected or above at end of KS1 2018

School GDS at the end of KS1

2019

National GDS at end of KS1 2018
Percentage of cohort (90) 22% 17% 6% 16%

What does this mean?

  • The amount of children achieving EXS+ has remained stable and in line with last year’s National data.  This can be attributed to the consistent teaching of writing across the school and high expectations of what the children can achieve.
  • Our percentage of children achieving GDS has gone down but last year’s cohort were stronger writers and this year teachers spent a greater amount of time embedding skills needed to achieve Expected.

Percentage of cohort (90) 20% 24% 22% 22%

What does this mean?

  • Overall data for children at EXS and GDS has gone down this is due to a changes in the interim framework which meant a limited amount of time was available to cover the necessary curriculum objectives.
  • The data for GDS is in line with last year’s national data. This can be attributed to it being our continued use of the mastery approach to teaching maths which teachers are increasingly confident using.
  • Year on year teachers provide children with more opportunities to apply what they are learning with high quality problem solving activities as well as reasoning tasks.
