Year 1

Hello and welcome to Year 1!

Class WK – Miss Kirby and Miss Lodhia

Class BB – Mrs Basigara (Mon-Weds), Mrs Broom (Weds – Fri) and Mrs Thompson

Reading is a crucial part of our Year 1 learning. Please aim to read with your child at least 3 times per week, and record this in the Reading Record. Your child will be given a reading book which is matched to their current phonics ability, and a book for pleasure (to share with a grown up or an older sibling).

Your child’s reading books will be changed weekly, on a Friday. Please make sure that your child’s reading books and reading record is in school on that day.

Each day your child will need to bring a named water bottle and a waterproof coat. Each child also needs a pair of named wellies in school, which can be left in school. Please make sure all of your child’s clothes are clearly labelled with their name, especially cardigans and jumpers! This give us the best chance of reuniting clothes with their owner!

We will send home spellings regularly, for you to help your child to practise. These will not be tested in a spelling test – the aim will be for your child to be able to read and write these words confidently and independently in all of their writing.

Our PE lessons will be on Thursday. The PE kit is a white t shirt, black jogging bottoms or shorts, black hoodie and trainers. Your child will need to wear their PE kit to school on Thursdays.

We will continue to use Seesaw as a way of communicating with you (eg to send out spellings). If you need to speak to your child’s class teacher please call the School Office/send a message via StudyBugs if it requires an immediate response. Alternatively send us a message on Seesaw for queries that are not urgent. Please be aware that we will not be available on Seesaw during the school day.
